I intend to use a similar principle of a projection dome where it may be viewed from both inside and outside!

250 Words- Concept and Direction

Jorn Utzon is an inspirational architect that moved away from traditional design and pushed the limits of what architecture can become. The Silkeborg Museum that Utzon designed is architecture that pushed the boundaries, with his similar ideas, my re interpretation will still voice Utzon but in ways that were impossible when Utzon was designing. Instead of keeping the building a museum, I have decided to transform it into an outdoor/indoor cinema complex.
The shapes that Utzon has used to design the museum I will dividing them and then resizing and manipulating and transforming them to suit my ideas. The ramps just like Utzon will be the main focus of my building. The ramps will be used to direct pedestrians to different sections of the complex.
The difference of my cinema complex compared to others is that I will be incorporating ideas that are not too commonly used. One of these ideas includes incorporating a Stratosphere Video Projection Dome. The Stratosphere Dome is a translucent multimedia projection dome that features 360-degree projection on both the inside and outside of the Stratosphere dome. As a multimedia dome, the Sphere features video projection, cinema, laser light shows, special effects lighting, live video projection, video feed, and more.
This is no ordinary cinema complex it is one that incorporates outdoor living and nature, aswell as the warmth and comfort of indoor leisure.

Quote

"Here, in this museum, it is possible to exhibit paintings and sculptures the size ofa three-storyed building so that it is possible to walk around the objects on all levels on the system of ramps, and perhaps the possibility of this kind of exhibition leads to a new line f develpment in decorative art in place of the ordinary form in public buildings today, which are merely easel paintings on a gigantic scale." (Jorn Utzon)

Unbuilt architecture

In 1961 Jorn Utzon met one of Demark’s leading artist Asger Jorn. Asger Jorn a multitalented artist was going to display his latest work at the Silkeborg museum and “come to the conclusion that it would be contrary to the entire spirit of the collection to announce an architectural competition for the building” (Asger Jorn). Asger Jorn wanted a ‘that has an intimate relationship to the artistic form of expression represented by the collection ‘. And i believe that Jorn Utzon’s interpretation was both kind and reflects the artist collection and form an intimate relationship. Utzon design is one of 20th Centuries most outstanding unbuilt architectures. Utzon refers to the museum as a cave and oven like, with Utzon’s love of the Islamic world he was inspired by the caves in Tatung.
Utzon design is unconventional and unseen, and pushes the boundries of conventional museum. Utzon wanted to design a structure that was both artistic and practical in a sense and empahasise the work of Asger Jorn. Utzon wanted to create spaces within the building to accommodate the artist work which consisted on sculptures that were three stories tall and to really make these sculptures be emphasised in their maximum potential designed the spaces around so that it wasn’t possible to look at the work from on view but you would have to walk around the sculpture to view it all. This is proof that Utzon was thinking of the designer when designing the building and not just designing a building for a client.
